IN THE BEGINNING...
In 1921, after attending Texas A&M College and serving in France as a U.S. Army officer in World War I, George W. Mitchell established himself as G. W. Mitchell General Contractor in San Antonio, Texas. Mitchell got his start building homes for families on the Southside of San Antonio but quickly moved up to larger custom homes and commercial projects. In 1926 Mitchell built his first school in Floresville, Texas. In 1929, he successfully completed a large residence that put him on the map as a premier local contractor – the Atkinson Family Estate, widely recognized today as the McNay Art Museum.
Today, a third generation carries on the tradition of providing high-quality construction services with Melvin serving as Chairman of the Board, Bill Mitchell as President, Lane Mitchell as Vice President, and Andy Mitchell as C.F.O. A fourth generation Mitchell, Matt Mitchell, also lands amongst the family ranks and currently serves as a senior project manager.
The Mitchells, along with our strong team of experienced construction professionals, all share in the same core values that were instilled in the company culture back in 1921 by its founder.
